[englisch, 'sɪnθæks; Wortneuschöpfung aus Synthesizer und Axe], eine MIDI-Gitarre (MIDI) in völlig neuartiger Gestalt. Die sechs Griffsaiten (Pitch-Strings) auf dem zwei Oktaven umfassenden Griffbrett mit fast gleichen Bundabständen sind getrennt von den winklig dazu verlaufenden, wesentlich kürzeren Anschlagsaiten (Trigger Strings). Zu jeder Saite gehört noch eine Taste, mit der Klang und Tonlänge beeinflusst werden können. Zwei weitere Tasten ermöglichen zusätzlich die klangliche Abstimmung der Saiten. Der Vibratohebel und zuschaltbare Pedale bieten weitere Effekte. Das von der angeschlagenen Saite abgenommene digitale Signal kann z. B. in einen Bläser- oder Streicher-Sound umgewandelt werden. Der sehr hohe Preis stand seinerzeit einer größeren Verbreitung dieses Instruments im Wege.
